Ryder came into a position of responsibility without proper preparation or training, and I imagine a lot of his early days as a Pathfinder as very tense, very focused. He had things to do, had problems to solve, but at least, he had a crew he could rely on, that gradually became closer as they solved this new galaxy's riddles and faced its dangers. He is very logical. He thrives when he gets to think things through and act on his conclusions, and struggles in situations when he has to make quick decisions, which he often later regrets. Towards others, he falls back on a professional attitude, often to make the more experienced people in charge of the Andromeda Initiative take him seriously. When the situation warrants it, such as with close friends, he can be very emotionally earnest. The only thing one shouldn't expect from him are careless jokes. Professionally, his strength is building alliances and connecting with people.
